Here is a charcoal portrait drawing of a very composed little girl sitting on the grass. The couple who had me portrait their daughter for them in 2015, had actually found me 5 years earlier and had me sketch at that time from a baby picture that they loved when she was only 6 months old, out in her stroller for a bit of fresh air. You can see that portrait below.
Now the little girl has turned 5 and they thought it was time for another portrait. I couldn’t agree more! They had a local photographer whom they hired for an hour to take a series of pictures. When they were done, they got me in contact with the photographer who gave me the link to her website and the password to the page where I could look at the photos. I gave the parents my suggestions and together we chose this full-body picture on the grass. Not only does it make a lovely 18″x24″charcoal portrait which will last lifetimes and forever show the beautiful youth of this little girl, but if they ever want me to paint it in oil in the future, I will deduct the price of the charcoal from the oil, so in the end they will have 2 portraits for the price of one! Before I shipped it off to them, the mother wrote me: “Looks wonderful!! We love it!”
Charcoal portraits are a wonderful way to freeze time and record precious youth. Then, when framed correctly, they are good archival investments for centuries.
I happen to have the baby portrait in my website in the “Photo to Painting” section where it shows the reference photo along with it. Here it is too:
