This time I got to enjoy making an oil portrait of a little girl neighbor of mine. We went to her house and photographed her in her living room where she was in reality sitting at the end of a couch. The little girl asked if she could have her cat with her. When her mother hesitated, I told Taylor that I would paint her in secretly, so she could always know that she was there. If you look, you can see the kitty’s tail on the right side, just below the leg of the chair. (For some reason it shows up much more in the photo than in the actual painting.)
When she first saw the painting, her mother said: “You’ve really captured her. Her eyes. You’ve really got them. I love it!.” After it had hung in the home for a few months, she added, “It has made such a presence in our living room. Every time I go through the room I see her at that time. She has changed already. It’s something that we’ll have forever. It’s a treasure for the family.” Another time she told me, “You know, Taylor’s is the best one of your portraits.”
